Peri-implantitis right here right now
Peri-implantitis is qualified emerging public health problem due to its increasing prevalence, lack of predictive treatment and associated high recurrence, collectively negatively effecting local and systemic health, patient perception of the treatment and overall implant therapy cost-effectiveness. Out of these reasons substantial efforts are invested in understanding of underlying causes behind peri-implantitis, and improvement of the preventive, diagnostic, treatment, and maintenance strategies for optimizing implant therapy being the gold standard treatment for replacement of the missing teeth. This lecture will address the stateof-the-art aspects concerning peri-implantitis pathology, diagnostics and treatment, and the concept of precision management of peri-implantitis patients as a safe step toward successful implant therapy.
Dr. Mia Rakic is specialist in periodontology and oral medicine, and recognized expert in domain of peri-implantitis. She has graduated at the Faculty of Dental Medicine (University of Belgrade, Serbia) where she defended her Ph.D. thesis in the field of personalized diagnosis of periimplantitis. She performed her post-doctoral training in INSERM-UMRS-1229 unit specialized in regenerative medicine of osteo-articular system (University of Nantes, France) in the field of developmentt of bioactive bone substitutes for peri-implant bone regeneration. Afterwards, she focused her research on investigation of infection and titanium particles induced peri-implant osteolysis, and development of related targeted therapies. Dr. Rakic is elect officer in the Executive committee of the European Federation of Periodontology (EFP) and member of the Scientific Committee of the EFP. Dr. Rakic is affiliated to the ETEP research group of the University Complutense of Madrid (Madrid, Spain), she is internationally recognized speaker in domain of periodontology and implantology, and author of large number of scientific papers published in the leading indexed journals in the field.
