FOUR HORSEMEN OF APOCALYPSE IN DIGITAL DENTISTRY

We have been noticing for a long time that the trend of developing dental industry, particularly when prosthodontics is in question, has got two directions:

    - Digitalisation of all procedures

    - Development of monolithic materials

Dental clinicians are currently in a situation in which most of the conventional protocols are replaced by digital ones, and they require a different kind of an approach to work and knowledge of the latest software and hardware tools. On the other hand, zirconium oxide has been “imposed” on us, as a preferable material of choice in most indications of procedures. We are facing every day dilemmas, challenges and even fears, because new problems appear on the daily basis, and “modern” approaches to solutions are not supported by experience and “follow up”.

Justification of application of new technologies and protocols in rather complicated prosthetic cases is the first part of our story.

The second part are challenges which we face when using of zirconium oxide ceramics as the material, and which rise from insufficient capability in the case of this unperfect material and insufficient knowledge of the protocol and its application.

Finally, we are going to deal with the more and more frequent fear of fast development of artificial intelligence and the analysis of its “entrance” into dentistry and how much it will, by its further development, influence our profession.

Four horsemen of dental apocalypse are in front of as. We are fighting against them by new knowledge and new accessibility to software and hardware tools.
