Innovative Applications of Artificial Intelligence in Dental Radiology: From Visual Analysis to Clinical Implementation
Piotr Regulski, Assoc. Prof., PhD, DMD, Eng.

    Abstract:

The application of artificial intelligence (AI) in dental radiology has significantly advanced diagnostic precision and clinical efficiency, enabling novel methodologies for imaging analysis and interpretation. This presentation examines the innovative utilization of AI technologies, with an emphasis on the VisNow-Medical platform. Designed as a comprehensive tool for visual analysis, VisNow-Medical integrates modular algorithms with state-of-the-art AI techniques to facilitate the processing and interpretation of 1D, 2D, and 3D radiological datasets. Its functionalities encompass segmentation, denoising, quantitative imaging, and multimodal data fusion, making it a versatile resource in complex diagnostic scenarios.

A focal point of this discussion is the application of VisNow-Medical in the assessment of temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disorders. The integration of advanced T2 mapping has provided detailed insights into soft and hard tissue dynamics, supporting enhanced diagnostic accuracy and individualized treatment planning. Similarly, the platform’s capabilities in cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) have been applied to post-surgical evaluations in cleft lip and palate cases, revealing trends in volumetric bone changes that inform surgical strategies.

Beyond VisNow-Medical, the broader scope of AI in dental radiology is explored, including automated detection of dental pathologies such as caries, periodontal disease, and osseous lesions. The presentation further highlights the role of machine learning algorithms in optimizing image quality, artifact reduction, and cross-modality integration for comprehensive diagnostic workflows.
