“A visit to a cave with unique beauty value”
It is the “Petralona Cave” of Stalactites and stalagmites, formed at an attidude of approximately 300 meters above sea level. The cave bacame known worldwide in the autumn of 1960, when the famous fossil skull of “Petralona Man” was found. Systematic excavations of the cave in 1965 and incestigations showed that the “Petraloneios Archanthropos” (i.e. archaic Homo sapiens) is 700.000 years old representing the oldest known hitherto European human being.
