APPLICATION OF BIOMOLECULES IN DENTAL PRACTICE
Prof. A. Mlachkova- Department of periodontology-MU -Sofia
Periodontal therapy includes, in addition to non-surgical treatment of periodontitis, various surgical approaches to the treatment of periodontitis-induced destruction of soft tissues and bone. The most common effect of non-surgical therapy is the formation of a long connective epithelium. There is histological evidence that the results of surgical regenerative therapy lead to repair rather than the desired complete regeneration of periodontal tissues. Modern modalities of periodontal surgery to obtain more complete healing of the affected tissues through periodontal regeneration include the use of:
- bone substitutes; guided tissue regeneration with barrier membranes; procedures using different types of flaps; additional components such as: soft tissue grafts; root bio transformers and a variety of growth factors.
Of the growth applications, PRF is considered to be the most reasonable technique in terms of obtaining growth factors in a physiological way. Enamel derivatives: increase the gain of attachment; they support the reduction of deep pockets and have predictable results when used in the regenerative therapy of vertical bone defects. In the field of dentistry, in vitro and animal studies have shown that hyaluronic acid protects against free oxygen radicals, stimulates healing, induces angiogenesis and does not interfere with osteogenesis.
