Sports Dentistry in the Digital Era
The evolution of digital technology in recent years has opened new horizons and established new standards in clinical practice across almost all fields of Dentistry. Sports Dentistry is no exception. This discussion will focus on the sectors of Sports Dentistry where the integration of digital technology has contributed to both improving the treatments offered to athlete-patients and simplifying clinical procedures for the benefit of practitioners.
The contribution of digital technology to both the prevention and management of sports-related injuries will be analyzed. Furthermore, the use of intraoral scanners and 3D printing for the fabrication of custom-made printed athletic mouthguards will be described. Finally, the role of digital technology in recording and improving the compromised oral health of athletes will be an additional topic of discussion.
